Seasonal, Local, Veggie Box Programs

Apr 02, 2012

How Does A Veggie Box Work?
Fresh garden produce is delivered to your door on a weekly or bi-weekly basis! Customers receive a portion of the farm’s harvest – this means you will be eating freshly picked food rather than retail produce which is often picked weeks in advance. By joining our Veggie Box Program, you encourage local agriculture, support small farm production, and receive healthy fresh produce!

What Will Be In Your Box?
Seasonal variety is one delight of a veggie box. Varieties are selected for their flavour and quality. As the season progresses, box content changes with an increasing variety of produce such as:

  • Spring and early Summer– Mixed greens, lettuce, spinach, peas, bunching onions, baby beets, baby carrots, green garlic, rhubarb, herbs, and radishes
  • July & August – Beans, broccoli, carrots, chard, cucumbers, garlic, herbs, potatoes, kale, summer squash, shallots, tomatoes etc. are added
  • Sept. & Oct. – Winter squash, parsnip, and turnip become available

Selection & Subscriptions

You can sign up for 4 weeks, 10 weeks or a full season (18wks). Weekly or biweekly delivery is available. You can change box sizes, take weeks off, share extra boxes with friends or neighbours. You receive discounts when you sign up early before the season begins (10% discount) or sign up for 10 weeks or more during the season (5% discount). Mostly however, we want you to be satisfied with the quality and quantity of your produce.

Discounts are offered on purchases of 10 or more boxes. Early Bird savings as much as $95.00 are available for full season members. Download applications on line or request one by email or at The Farm at Cedar Woods farmers’ market stall.

Limited Membership:
Only 40 memberships offered! Join Now!
Receive a $20 gift card when you refer a new member!

Choose From Three Affordable Sizes
Small ($35), Medium ($44), Large ($53)

  • Small Box: The small box has 10-12 items - a quantity of food perfect for a family of two or a single with a wholesome appetite
  • Medium Box: The medium box best suits a family of four & has 14 items
  • Large Box: The large box has 16+ items and serves a family of more than four

Do You Have a Choice?
Yes, but choices are limited to what is in season. In full season usually the beginning of July, you will be given a checklist to order your family’s favourites. Fresh naturally grown food tastes VERY different from ‘store-bought’ so we encourage you to try a few veggies you may not care for - you might find a NEW favourite food!!

Suspend Your Subscription
If you plan to be away from home for a week or two, you can suspend delivery. You need to let us know of these changes in advance (min. 10 – 14 days). You can suspend delivery for two (2) weeks per season - to accommodate your holiday needs.  Make-up weeks are offered at the end of the season. No credit or refunds for missed weeks.

All boxes are pre-paid. Cash or cheques are accepted. Make cheques payable to The Farm at Cedar Woods.

Nanoose Edibles Organic Farm

Lorne and Barbara Ebell purchased this 9.1 ha farm twenty years ago as a retirement venture. The farm has been certified organic since 1997.

The farm is a mix of arable land, low lands (converted to ½ acre recreation and irrigation pond), rock outcrops and forest land, much of which is fragile and all precious to the Ebells. Currently, less than half the land is farmed and each year a good percentage is in cover crop. The cropland is fenced to exclude wildlife, but a 100 meter strip of woodland remains available as a wildlife corridor.

Visitors are encouraged to come in to see the farm which is a year-round operation. Roads and trails are maintained and a self-guided tour map of the farm is available.

At the Oceanside Community's Faires Farm there is a delivery program from Campbell River to Nanaimo running from May15th to November st

We deliver to Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Port Alberni, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Nanaimo, Comox Valley and Campbell River. Delivery is $3.50 per week.  For the Family Box this would total $31.50 per week, and the Personal Bag $21.50 per week. We do not currently offer a pickup option. We can arrange delivery to outside areas if 5 or more customers subscribe in that area.

We ask that you prepay for a minimum of 8 boxes or bags in advance.  This helps us plan ahead.  Please note that you receive two weeks free if you order the full season. You can also earn discounts through our composting program.

At this time we cannot accommodate substitutions. If you don’t like something, please give it to someone who does. We always include recipes in our newsletter that make even the pickiest eater try a vegetable, so you might find you like something new.

Delivery days will be assigned to you based on your area. If you will be out of town please call us the week prior and let us know.

You may cancel any time, but please be aware that there are no refunds on prepaid orders at this time.

The contents of the boxes and bags vary greatly due to the season and weather.  Our goal is to give you eight to ten wide varieties of food in each box/bag, and fill that box up.

While our goal is to deliver your food the day it is harvested, in certain situations this may not be possible and is not guaranteed.

As you know, farming is dependant on unpredictable weather and the mercy of nature.  Faires Farms offers an industry leading No Risk Guarantee. Click here to read more.

You can contact us via our website or by phone at 250-240-3129 and leave a voicemail. We will get back to you right away.

If you know of other great local farm programs please let us know.
