What is K.I.D.S. up to this year?

Oct 07, 2012

Many people have been asking us about this next years projects so we thought we would give you a brief update about what K.I.D.S. hopes to do this trip. We cannot thank you enough for your past and ongoing contributions that improve and positively change the lives of so many children and families living in Cambodia and along the Burma?Thailand border.

Ongoing Projects

Samnang Girl’s Home, that K.I.D.S. totally funds, continues to provide education, health care and a safe loving environment for 13 girls who were formerly living in extreme poverty, being abused and at risk of hard manual labour and or trafficking.

Srey Pho Village Free School, also totally funded by K.I.D.S. provides 60 children with an education and a much needed hot and nutritious daily meal.

We continue to support the Stung Treng Women’s Development Center where 50 women earn a good living wage and improve the lives of their families by learning to weave. K.I.D.S. provides support for the two teachers at the center’s onsite daycare/school where the weaver’s 35 children learn and are close to their mothers.

We see the huge difference that education can make in a child, a family and a community. K.I.D.S. supports hundreds of poor rural children both in Cambodia as well as Burmese refugee children on the Burma border; your support helps these children to receive an education, school supplies, food and training.

New Projects for 2012/13 Water and Power

Millions of Cambodians live without clean water or electricity and this trip we are hoping to improve these conditions by building wells and providing solar power for poor rural schools in the countryside and for children living in isolated floating villages on the Tonle Sap Lake. Solar power at schools will allow children to study in the evening, cool the school with fans during the hot season and power compressors for tire repairs as well as charge home batteries for electricity (which would provide income generation for the schools). Clean water prevents suffering and illness. We have identified four schools and communities that we have been working with and have the support of the communities and teachers to ensure management and maintenance of the water/solar systems.

We leave on December 5th and as always will keep you updated through e-mails. We look forward to corresponding and connecting while overseas and telling you the stories of how your kindness and support changes and greatly improves the lives of so many.

With appreciation,

Adrianne and Rick
