Radio CHLY’s New Global Headquarters

Nanaimo’s CHLY Radio (101.7 fm) moved into new digs this month—the historic Globe Hotel downtown on Front Street.

This is a cool performance venue for downtown Nanaimo, complete with stage, professional sound and lighting, the ability to broadcast live and/or record for podcast and even telecast (yes, there is going to be a CHLY TV).

The bar serves coffee, tea, beer, wine, and juice. And they hope to open the kitchen and serve food in the future.

It’s a big vision and a big undertaking. CHLY’s success with this plan, as a campus/community radio station, will rest largely on community support and community users of this space.

CHLY’s “Global Headquarters” is entirely run by volunteers. It is currently open 7 days a week, from 11:00 am to 1:00 am (yes, 1:00 in the morning). So you can drop in any time to have a look.

If you are interested in using the space for an event you are planning, contact CHLY Program Director Dylan Perry at programdirector@chly.ca

“Yoga is ultimately not about wrapping our legs around our necks or arching back into beautiful back bends. It is about using the body as an instrument to fully realize and stay connected to our own inner joy, love, and compassion. Yoga is about opening our hearts with love, and compassion to others who suffer in innumerable ways. Yoga is not about touching our toes. It is about tenderly touching the hearts of the people around us.”

THE RESILIENCE PROJECT
This exciting theatre project aims to provide a unique experience for both Vancouver Island Youth (Ages 12-18)and seniors in our community, to connect, listen and recreate  stories focused on resilience.  These stories will culminate in a final performance at the Chemainus Theatre on May 31st2013.

The program will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm. Start date is April 23 and runs until May 31st.  The program requires a strong commitment in attendance and focus. The program will take place at the production facilities in Chemainus and at chosen senior facilities in Chemainus. Students who participate will also receive one free admission to our Island Stories Festival.
