Loaves and Fishes and Sea Creatures of all Sorts

Sep 03, 2012

The Yogic Community and others on Vancouver Island are thinking of the greater good of the community throughout the year.

Harbour City Music is holding a JAM FOR FOOD!!!!!!!! On Friday August 31st from 12 till 3 pm.

Yoga Weyr has been collecting food and money for Loaves and Fishes in Nanaimo since they opened three years ago instead of payment. Monday's 10:30 am class is free to the public and many participants bring food or dollar donations in lieu of payment.

The LifeHouse Chiropractic Studio recently collected close to $1000 for the Salvation Army.

Red Door Yoga has been running a Seva (Selfless Service) class every Sunday afternoon at 4:30 pm since opening last September.
The purpose of the Seva class is three fold: 1- To collect non-perishable food items for the local chapter of Loaves and Fishes food bank; 2- To help those less financially able to attend regular priced yoga classes enjoy the benefits of yoga; 3- To give certified yoga teachers and teachers-in-training the opportunity to gain class time experience to improve their skills.

They donate the space, the teachers donate their time and the students donate the food. Since last September Red Door has collected just under 100 kgs (220 lbs) of food for Loaves and Fishes.

Loaves and Fishes Nanaimo is desperate for food right now. Some weeks they help feed 500+ adults and 250+ children.
Items that are especially needed are: Canned fruits and veggies, canned beans, pasta and sauces, and peanut butter. Other items are welcome though!

This summer, if you are lucky enough to get out to the West Coast of Vancouver Island check out the incredibleUcluelet AQUARIUM. The hard working staff sticks to their commitment to the community by releasing every single animal back to it's local environment after a short stay in their facility.

The mission of the Ucluelet Aquarium Society
is to raise awareness about local marine biodiversity
and promote respect for the ocean environment.
